How do I get my business on Google Maps?
Updated 14 October 2026
Create a free Google Business Profile at business.google.com, add your business details, and verify it. Once Google verifies you, your business can show on Google Maps and in local search results. It costs nothing, but verification can take from minutes to a few weeks.
Step by step
1. Go to business.google.com and sign in with a Google account you'll keep using for the business.
2. Enter your business name exactly as customers see it on your signage, invoices and website.
3. Choose the category that best describes what you do. The primary category matters most, so pick the most specific one that fits.
4. Add your address if customers visit you. If you go to them, like a plumber or a mobile beauty therapist, you can hide your address and set a service area instead.
5. Add your phone number and website.
6. Verify. Google chooses the method. It may be a phone call, text, email, video recording or a postcard, and it can ask for more than one.
After you're verified
Being on Maps is the start. Fill in your opening hours, services, photos and a description in plain words. Keep your hours current, especially on public holidays.
Ask happy customers for a review and reply to every review, good or bad. Make sure your business name, address and phone number match everywhere they appear online, including your website and directories.
Common reasons it doesn't show up
The profile isn't verified yet. The category is too broad. The name has extra keywords stuffed into it, which breaks Google's rules and can get the profile suspended. Or the details don't match your website, so Google is less sure the listing is right.
If you'd rather it was done for you
Spottable sets up your Google Business Profile and looks after it every month as part of our website plans. Verification itself always stays with you, because Google sends it to the owner.
